**Nursing Apprenticeship Pathway**

This new Nursing Apprenticeship Pathway enables you to study part-time at university whilst being employed at CUH as a HCSW, ultimately progressing to Registered Nurse status.

You will be on a route into nursing with tuition fees of £27k fully paid from the Trust Apprenticeship Levy, leading to a BSc (Hons) Nursing Degree upon successful completion of studies (with our partner University) and registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council

Nursing Apprenticeship Pathway Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must:

  • Demonstrate a good command of written and spoken English
  • Provide original certificates to demonstrate achievement of English and maths GCSE, grade A-C (new grading 9-4) or academic equivalent i.e. Level 2 functional skills in English and Maths. (Support is available to help you up-skill to this academic level – please email nursingapprenticeship@addenbrookes.nhs.uk should you wish to access this support)
  • Be in substantive employment with the trust in a clinical role
  • Successfully completed the National Care Certificate
  • Have a kind, caring and hard-working attitude
  • Be sufficiently self- motivated to complete this pathway
  • Not be registered with the NMC
  • Not have practised as a registered nurse (in any country)
  • If you are an overseas candidate, you will need to have a minimum of 3 years EU residency

How to apply

  • Email nursingapprenticeship@addenbrookes.nhs.uk to register your interest
  • You will receive an ‘expression of interest’ form to complete and email back, FAQs and further information on forthcoming Nursing Apprenticeship Information Sessions
  • Candidates meeting the Nursing Apprenticeship Pathway criteria will be invited to attend a joint interview with CUH & ARU with a view to commencing this pathway either in September 18’ or January 19’ cohorts
  • Undertake a Higher Apprenticeship – Assistant Practitioner (academic level 5) duration 20 months attending university 1 day a week (this 7.5 hours is paid study leave)
  • Successfully pass a short English and Maths test
  • Undertake a Pre-registration Nursing Degree Apprenticeship (academic level 6) duration 22 months remaining in your current post for 22.5 hours, the residual 15 hours (2 days a week) will be spent as a student nurse
  • For the final 12 weeks of this pathway you will be full time and supernumerary

NB: You must be working in a substantive position for a minimum of 30 hours per week for the first 20 months whilst undertaking the Higher Apprenticeship – Assistant Practitioner.  You will need to be employed for 37.5 hours per week (in the second 2 years) when undertaking the Pre- registration Nursing Degree Apprenticeship.

Applicant requirements

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
