Our Trust
Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) NHS Foundation Trust comprises Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the Rosie Hospital in Cambridge. With over 9000 staff and over 1100 beds the priorities of the Trust focus on a quality service which is all about people – patients, staff and partners. Recognised as providing ‘outstanding’ care to our patients and rated ‘Good’ overall by the Care Quality Commissioner, is testament to the skill and dedication of the people who work here. CUH’s values – Together- safe, kind, excellent – are at the heart of patient care, defining the way all staff work and behave. The Trust provides accessible high-quality healthcare for the local people of Cambridge, together with specialist services, dealing with rare or complex conditions for a regional, national and international population.

Are you a highly motivated, skilled and experienced Speech & Language Therapist looking for a new challenge?

We are looking for an experienced Therapist to join our positively regarded Adult Acute team as an Advanced Specialist Clinician.

The Adult Acute service reaches across the hospital and Divisional structure covering medicine, including DME, gastroenterology and respiratory medicine, critical care, surgery and neurosciences. As well as acute ward based care, the team takes a lead on service representation at the Feeding Issues MDT, Nutrition Steering Group, co-ordination of the Videofluoroscopy (VFS) Clinic, Fibre-optic Endoscopic inpatient swallow assessments (FEES) and specialist contribution to the MND clinic.

With the support of your team lead, working alongside peers and as an integral member of the MDT, you will contribute to the provision of a highly specialist service to patients referred with communication and swallowing problems in this fast paced setting. You will also contribute to service development and help to ensure everyone referred to our service accesses the most effective and efficient care possible, as is experience of close MDT working. Skills in tracheostomy management and FEES are highly desirable.

Experience and skills working with patients with complex presentations in a variety of settings, close MDT working, fast paced clinical decision making, use of instrumental dysphagia assessment and experience managing tracheostomy are required. As an advanced specialist clinician you would be expected to contribute to service improvement initiatives and also provide support and supervision to less experienced therapists and students.  In all cases, training and development needs will be identified and a personal development plan agreed and supported.

The post offers an excellent opportunity to build on skills and contribute to the development of this varied and challenging caseload as part of a supportive and progressive team and service. Excellent professional supervision and peer support, is available.  Please ring if you would like further information.

The Speech and Language Therapy Service at Addenbrooke’s is managed by a Professional Head of SLT and structured into four clinical areas, each led by a Senior Specialist SLT. These are “ENT / Head & Neck”, “Adult Acute”, “Acute Paediatrics & Neonates” and “Stroke / Neuro / Trauma Rehab”. In addition, the service is pleased to have been commissioned by NHS England to deliver specialised AAC services to the region.

This post is due to close on 21st February 2018.

Interviews are due to take place on 7th March 2018.

This post is subject to a satisfactory DBS clearance and as a result, you will be required to pay the associated fee of £47.50. This fee will be deducted from your second month’s salary.
