Our Trust

Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) NHS Foundation Trust comprises Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the Rosie Hospital in Cambridge. With over 9000 staff and over 1100 beds the priorities of the Trust focus on a quality service which is all about people – patients, staff and partners. Recognised as providing ‘outstanding’ care to our patients and rated ‘Good’ overall by the Care Quality Commissioner, is testament to the skill and dedication of the people who work here. CUH’s values – Together- safe, kind, excellent – are at the heart of patient care, defining the way all staff work and behave. The Trust provides accessible high-quality healthcare for the local people of Cambridge, together with specialist services, dealing with rare or complex conditions for a regional, national and international population.

This is a key support role within the eHospital team's IT department. The SQL Database Administrator will work closely with strategic partners and internal teams to deliver services to a varied user base. Reporting to the IT Application Support Manager, the SQL Database Administrator will be required to deliver a quality service to end users at all times

You will:

  • Be responsible for the daily administration of the databases, including backup & recovery, security, data integrity, documentation, performance monitoring and tuning.
  • Support the delivery of the application roadmap and contribute to the operational changes that are required to deliver the continual service improvement plan
  • Support the IT Applications Support Manager in the delivery of a high quality and professional support service to CUH users
  • Have the ability to define and contribute to solutions to technical challenges, ensuring the timely resolution of critical and non-critical incidents
  • Be required to communicate with users across all levels within the Trust and as such excellent communication skills are a must
  • Work within the ITIL framework to deliver compliant incident, problem, configuration, release and change management
  • Ensure that all services delivered by the eHospital Application Support team are compliant with operational level agreements
  • Support project initiatives that will enable delivery of the strategic vision, including the successful handover to support from Projects
  • Produce detailed reports where there is a service outage - typically a major incident where it relates to an IT specific service
  • Undertake out of hours support on a rotational basis for Applications and infrastructure services supported by the IT department.
  • Have experience of cloud based services and working with outsource partners
  • Have experience of supporting bespoke applications, application packaging, including integration and lifecycle management
  • Fulfil any other duties not specified within the job description which are required to fulfil the role

We are looking for candidates who possess a solid background in delivering SQL database support, with a tenacious approach to implementing timely resolutions to incidents and delivering service requests. You will be required to trouble shoot complex issues potentially spanning multiple organisations. In an addition, an ability to cope with short deadlines and a demanding workload is essential.

Specific experience of working within an NHS IT support team, with particular focus on application support would be highly beneficial.

Please note:- Internal applicants on permanent contracts can only apply for this post as a secondment and must have the approval of your current line manager before applying.

Pay award pending from 1st April 2018.
